Caregiver Sandra Brayon
My husband, Matt is a 49 year old man, over six feet tall, weighing more than 240 pounds, who had a stroke, two years ago. He is unable to use a conventional walker because he can not support his weight using it. I first heard about the Up n’ Go from a physical therapist. I needed something at home to help me get Matt from sitting to standing.
We have had very good results with the Up n’ Go. Currently it is set to support 75 pounds. I try to use the device with Matt every day. In nice weather we go outside on the porch. In winter, we are not able to use the device as often. As well as practicing walking, Matt uses the Up n’ Go to practice sit to stand, do knee bends, stand, and practice his balance. We accomplish more during exercise sessions because the Up n’ Go supports his weight so that I don’t have to hold him up to perform the exercises.
It’s taken a long time, but it’s been well worth it. Mike can now lift his arms over his head and balance. He can stand for 10 to 15 minutes and take more of his own weight during transfers. The Up n’ Go has helped a lot!
Sincerely,
